Can I order a test with a buccal swab kit?

Yes, you can. The variants that cause rare diseases are somatic variants (germlines) that are present in all cells, so a sample taken from oral epithelial cells and a sample taken from blood will have the same DNA. 3B-EXOME or 3B-VARINAT can be analysed without any problems.
However, 3B-GENOME is a test that looks at all the DNA extracted from the sample, so we do not accept a buccal sample as it may contain bacterial DNA. If you need 3B-GENOME for a patient who is unable to take blood, please contact us.
