When should I order a genetic test?

When a physician suspects a genetic disease based on the patient’s symptoms, the doctor can choose to perform genetic testing to diagnose the disease. Especially when it is difficult to determine the underlying cause of the patient’s symptoms, the doctor can consider conducting WES/WGS-based tests.
The ACMG Guidelines in 2021 recommend WES-based genetic testing as a first-line test for children with developmental, cognitive, and intellectual disabilities.
